HRH The Princess Royal presents MBE to Walsall volunteer

HRH The Princess Royal has awarded volunteer Mandy Poulson an MBE for her services to both Samaritans and HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). The award was presented at Windsor Castle.MBE presented to Walsall volunteer

Mandy was nominated for the award by her colleagues at work. It is in recognition of the contribution she has made to the wider community.

Mandy has volunteered with Samaritans for the last 23 years, answering hundreds of calls from people struggling to cope. During her time with the charity she has taken on a number of roles, including acting as Director of both the Walsall and Shrewsbury branches. She was also Regional Representative for the West Midlands and North Wales, where she was responsible for 17 Samaritans branches.

As well as her regular Samaritans duties, Mandy has been involved in fundraising, acted as Chair of the Management Committee, and is a Training Officer. She also helps facilitate Samaritans’ Annual Conference at York University.

Mandy said: “It was an honour to receive my MBE from HRH The Princess Royal, and a moment I will cherish for years to come. I feel privileged to be part of Samaritans, it is a big part of my life and I hope to continue my duties as a volunteer for many years.”

Chair of Samaritans, Stephen Hoddell, said: “We’re incredibly proud of Mandy’s achievements, and the MBE is further recognition of the hard work, passion and commitment she has shown to helping people in need for over two decades.”

Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd May 2011

Mick and Eleanor Mason held another successful Garden Party Enjoying the Garden Partyat their home. Last year's event was a superb success so we were really looking forward to this year's party and luckily we had lovely weather again both days. Perhaps a certain high profile wedding recently put people in the mood for outdoor parties- there were plenty of takers for the tea, coffee and biscuits and the other refreshments for sale which included bread pudding, cup cakes, ploughmans lunches, quiche and sandwiches plus seasonal strawberries with cream or ice cream; other attractions included an art exhibition and sale, a raffle, bring and buy sale, and new this year "Guess the name of the Scarecrow"! The event raised £380.

Saturday 2nd April

Aldridge Methodist Church raised £350 for us at their Coffee Morning in April. Great value drinks, bargain bric-a-brac and lovely home-made cakes and preserves were on offer as we have come to expect from this event.
