2006 Events

Saturday 5th August 2006
Bloxwich Carnival - our information and fundraising stall was part of the celebrations in King George V Park once again this year. After an unpromising start to the day, the weather worked out just nice this year - warm, but not too hot, and none of the downpours or high winds that can make outdoor events especiFundraising Fun at the Bloxwich stallally "challenging" for us!

It was good to have a number of people take an interest in our leaflets and ask about what Samaritans does. The children, as often is the case were frequently more thrilled with a 'consolation prize' - meaning they get to rummage through a box and pick out a small toy of their choice - rather than a big teddy or fluffy toy. The tombola and Pluck-A-Duck raised £95 for our funds - thanks to everyone who helped us achieve this.

The day the 'Moggies' cameImage: Morris Minor Owners Club fund 100 calls with a donation - South East Staffs Morris Minor Owners Club visited us with some of their cars as the finale to our year as their chosen charity. The presented us with a cheque for £225 which they have raised over the last 12 months - this is roughly equivalent to the cost of answering 100 calls to our helpline.

The Old 'uns scored a resounding 3 - 2 victory over the young 'uns. Everyone taking part Photo: Some of the people who took part in our 24:7 netball gameand watching had a fabulous time. We await the collection of sponsorship before we know how much has been raised, but one Young Ladies Team Player raised over £100 in a couple of days in sponsorship for a pre-match leg-wax. Brave fellow - and what a good sport!

Saturday 24th June 2006
We were delighted attend the Beechdale Community Housing Association's 10th Anniversary celebrations.Picture: Fundraisng and Information stall at the BCHA Open Day June 24th

We regard it as a highly successful day - our tombola stall was a sell out and we raised over £55 - more than a day's running costs for our services in the Walsall area.

It was marvelous to meet so many people from the area. Thank you to everyone who visited our stall - we hope to see you again.

Image - Samaritans at Hollybush with classic cars

South East Staffs Morris Minor Owners Club (who adopted us as their charity last year) invited us to join them at Hollybush Garden Centre, Shareshill. They were there with a number of their classic vehicles - Minors and others, a children's colouring competition and a tombola stall. Thanks to those who braved a cold, wet day to visit.

Wednesday 29th March 2006

Once again, Tesco allowed us to hold a collection at their New Oscott store. It was good meeting everyone and we raised £311.64 - thank you everyone for your generosity!

Friday  24th February 2006:

Image: Volunteers take to the bus to promote our awareness and recruitment campaignThe formal launch of our awareness and volunteer recruitment campaign involved a photo shoot with a Travel West Midlands bus at our centre.

Posters on buses serving routes across our area are part of our efforts to inform local people of our service and the need for volunteers to staff it.

The advertising, as well as some of the costs involved in delivering volunteer training has been funded with the support of the Lloyds TSB Foundation.

Wednesday  8th and Thursday 9th February 2006:

We were out with our collecting buckets Samaritans collecting boxat the Tesco store, Brownhills. We would like to say thank you to everyone who made donations, or came to talk, and to the Tesco staff and management for their help.

Over the two days we raised £161.07 which all  goes directly into funding Samaritans’ confidential emotional support service in this area.
