Our Scrapbook

2005 Events

Saturday 10th September 2005:

Many thanks to Tesco for allowing us another collection day following our successful two days at their New Oscott store. This time we were at the Brownhills store, and it was great seeing everyone, and good that so many of you found time to talk and put money in our collecting boxes while out and about doing the shopping on what must have been one of the wettest days of the year! We greatly value all the donations you  have given - without it we just couldn't do our work. In just one afternoon we raised £158.13.

Sunday 21st August 2005:

South East Staffs Morris Minor Owners Club Morris Minor Owner's Club logo again invited us to their Annual Rally held at the Museum of Cannock Chase,  Hednesford, which has a very interesting range of exhibits relating to the history of the local area. Image: Amongst the visitors to our fundraising and information stall was Tango, seen here modeling the latest in canine headgear—Samaritans style!

The sun never stopped shining, which made for a very pleasant day amongst the cars and their loving owners.

Our stall, selling home-made goodies, and our raffle, were a great success - thanks to everyone who donated goods, and everyone who came to the stall to support us.

The Minor Owners club also had a bric-a-brac stall and a raffle to raise further cash for Samaritans funds, which was also well supported.

We were pleased to have the opportunity to meet and talk to people from the Hednesford area and further afield.

Over the two days we raised £595.37 and all of this goes directly into funding Samaritans’ confidential emotional support service in the local area.

Saturday 6th August 2005:

We're delighted to say that we once more had a successful day at Bloxwich Carnival (King George V Playing Fields) - the weather was kind enough to let people enjoy an outdoor event. Image: Raising Funds and awareness at Bloxwich Carnival 2005. Pluck-A-Duck is always a popular attraction. We had lots of prize winning opportunities to help us fund-raise, and the Pluck-a-Duck was as popular as ever with both children and adults. We'd like to thank everyone who came to try their luck or to talk to us and take away some information about Samaritans.

Saturday 2nd July 2005:

Image - Volunteers at our stall at Pelsall Carnival 2005 - to find out more about volunteering with Samaritans, click on this pictureWe were at Pelsall Carnival. This, as usual, was one of the biggest and liveliest community events in the area with a wide range of attractions including car boot sale, fun-fair, craft tent and various displays in the arena, as well as the charity stalls, not to mention the parade!

We were pleased to meet all of you who visited the stall, whether to make enquiries, give donations, have a go on our Lucky Dip and Pluck-A-Duck, or just to say hello. It was great to hand out so many prizes - including the big duck!

The money raised helps us to keep Samaritans running for everyone around the area.

Saturday 4th June 2005:At Samaritans' stall at the Volunteer Fair at Bloxwich Old Baths organized by New Deal for Communities

For Volunteers Week 2005, New Deal for Communities held a Volunteers' Fair at Bloxwich Old Baths and we went along to share information about our work.

The event celebrated the enormous commitment of time freely given by people of all backgrounds for the things they believe make a difference to the society we all live in.

It was a great opportunity to meet up with people from the local community involved in all sorts of volunteering, and entertaining too, with Punch and Judy, dancers and singers.

Monday 30th May 2005:Volunteer setting up our stall in Palfrey Park

We went to Palfrey Park for the Community Fun Day. Despite the variable weather, when the sun shone, lots of people came to talk to us and help us raise cash whilst trying to win prizes.

Monday 2nd May 2005:

Our stall at the Rushall May FayreOur stall @ Rushall May 2005 this Bank Holiday Monday was a great success. We were able to hand out information about Samaritans and give people the opportunity to win prizes whilst helping us raise funds. The day started off warm and sunny, and we were already well down the prizes when a squally period forced us to pack up and go early. Many thanks to the organisers for inviting us to take part in their show. We had a great time!

Samaritans Shop, March 2005:
Shop manager and Samaritans supporter with the dogA giant soft-toy dog was an extra volunteer recruited to help attract customers to our charity shop in Bloxwich High Street during the month of March. He sat in the window of the shop drawing the attention of passers-by to the bargains to be had within.
