SAMARITANS GO GREEN TO RAISE MORE FUNDS 

Samaritans now have a great way to generate valuable funds for our activities while saving the planet as well.

Any school, library, church or business can save the environment and support Samaritans at no cost to themselves. 

Samaritans will arrange the collection of empty laser toner cartridges, inkjet cartridges and old mobile phones for recycling. Then we receive a donation for every phone or cartridge.

Almost everyone uses phones and printers and normally these are thrown away when they have a value that can be donated to your chosen charity – in this case Samaritans. 

It takes on average 1 litre of oil to manufacture every 15 inkjet cartridges. In the year 2000, over 48 million inkjet cartridges and over 7 million laser toner cartridges were consumed in the UK alone. Use of recycled cartridges has increased and yet still 85% of these empty cartridges end up in landfill sites. 

The same is true of mobile phones with many people upgrading and either disposing of the old phone in the waste bin or keeping it in a draw at home. Recycling old mobile phones is very important because newly refurbished phones are sold throughout the third world where in many cases there is no fixed line telephone network.
